re: How To Rogue (PvE)

Similar to my Ret Pally post, I don't find it viable to write up a long post for every Rogue spec. And believe me, with the reforges, stat weights, play styles, and other differences each spec has, I'd be here writing for a week or more. With that being said, on Elitist Jerks there is a group of Rogue theory crafters there that do class guides and all the mathematics involved with it on a constant basis. They are rather exceptional actually, with almost instant updates, discussions on upcoming rogue changes for each class and the impacts of each change.

Below are the links for each spec:

Combat:

Assassination:

Another helpful tool for those that really want to maximize their dps is Shadowcraft.

But as with any tool that does it for you, be cautious and use common sense. AS sometimes the tools are not updated or have bugs.

I also want to point out. Shadowcraft currently weighs haste as being a greater stat than mastery for Assassination. That only occurs with RPPM trinkets from the new Throne of Thunder raid. Until 2 of those trinkets are acquired, Mastery still trumps Haste. Also, the tool also weighs expertise as a lower stat weight than Mastery or Haste, it is in fact a personal choice. Expertise ensure you have a more stable dps rotation, while placing expertise on a lower priority can give you a small dps increase.

This post is all relates to Assassination ONLY. Doesnt apply to Combat or Sub.

Also, for those that dont know what RPPM trinkets are, they are trinkets that were introduced with the 5.2 patch. These new trinkets no longer work on an Internal CD system and now work on a chance to proc system. Most say something similar to "Chance on hit to gain blah blah blah" This makes haste a much more powerful stat for a lot of classes. How much more powerful, you'll have to look into it yourself. For rogues it causes haste to be the number 1 secondary stat.

As it currently works, you first start attacking, you have say a 10% chance to proc, for every time that the trinket doesnt proc, you gain an INCREASED chance to proc, how much I'm not entirely sure. Nor am I certain that your chance to proc starts adding up again while the proc is active or after the proc has completed. I'm assuming its the latter. With this system, procs now become more irratic and RNG (Random Number Generation), which Blizz claims will make them not so boring. You can no longer count on your trinket procing so many times a fight and your dps will fluctuate greatly depending on these procs.
